POSTPONED from October
Explore Cupola basin, staying in the hut for two nights.
On Friday, very early start, drive to St Arnaud, water taxi and walk into Cupola Hut, about 7 or 8 hrs.
Saturday to e xplore the basin, possibly go up toward Mt Cupola.
Sunday walk back o ut, catch taxi back and late arrival in Nelson. Watertaxi $40 pp. Huts $10 per night or annual hut pass.
It's a long walk into Cupola, but not t echnical. We might split up into groups on Saturday, depending on where peo ple want to go explore. Will have to carry tents, as Cupola hut only has 8 bunks. And possibly ice axe for those who want to aim for Mt Cupola. I have not climbed it, so i wont lead that part, but Mike Drake has offered. Othe rwise, there is plenty to explore in the lower ranges.
We might have some lucky people that dont have to work on Thursday and walk into Coldwate r or John Tait Hut Thursday afternoon, overnight there and join the others coming from Nelson on Friday morning. We'll meet at the Coldwater water tax i jetty, then walk into Cupola all together.
Note: if I get more book ings then available spaces, I ll give priority to club members.
