Mount Hope is not the main attraction in this trip, the interesting rock
formations nearby are much more interesting. It should be about six hours
walking time, but it is worth allowing another two hours to explore the roc
k formations on the ridge near Mount Hope. This track is not an official tr
ack but it is fairly well marked and fairly well worn. The first part is a
steep and steady climb of about an hour before it eases off. Great vi
ews from the top. I’ve done this trip three times. The track starts from th
e Kohatu-Kawatiri Highway at Boulder Creek Bridge, not far before Kawatiri.
It is about 80km from Richmond.
