We start by visiting the Glenhope Railway station alongside SH6. Thanks to head ranger Daryl, I have a key to get in. This doesn't involve much wal king but its interesting to see inside the 1912 building.
Next is 6 m ile hydo station in the Matakitaki Valley. Again, I have a key from DoC. We visit the generating building dating from 1922 followed by a walk up the i ntake leat and on to a lake that is no longer. 5.2km
Then we move on to 8 mile creek where a walkway goes to a lake after a climb through wonder ful bush. 4km
Lastly we do the Skyline Walk, the biggest climb of the day at 237m, 3.4km with great views over what was Hampden but is now Murch ison.
A longish drive but we visit some tracks normally bypassed.
