Description |

| Labour Day w/e Friday pm - Travel to Matakitaki Lodge and stay the night or start the tramp and camp further up the Matakitaki Valley. Saturday - Tramp up the valley, cross the Matakitaki and head up Junction Creek. Leave Junction Creek and climb to the top of the ridge using the marked track connecting to Nardoo Valley. On the tops travel along the ridge to Emily Peaks (2030m). Sidle between the northern peaks and descend a steep gully to Burn Creek Hut (with good camping). Sunday - Down the overgrown track of Burn Creek, passing an old gold-mining site. The track climbs out of the creek 100m and then descends very steeply down "Jacobs Ladder", with some route finding down an overgrown slip. Further down, the track rejoins the creek, crossing side to side down to the Matakitaki River. Camp by the river or at Downies Hut. Monday - Walk down the Matakitaki River 4wd/farm track out to the car park. Total of 43km and 1700m of climbing. Map Series: BS23, BT23 | ||
