Dew Lakes (5 hours return) gives excellent views down the Pelorus Valley towards Havelock, and a few minutes further it is possible to see to Tasman Bay and the Western Ranges.  On the way to the tarns (lakes might be considered an exageration) we pass the argillite quarry where Maori sourced adzes.  Walk from Matai dam car park up the valley, then on the ridge track. Explore environs and return same way.  14km return; 700m climb. Depart from Cathedral steps at 8.30 am.
