SUMMARY:Craig Peak, Westland - Cancelled
URL;VALUE=URI:https://www.live.nelsontrampingclub.org.nz/events/calendar/1415/craig-peak,
 -westland-cancelled?tmpl=component
DESCRIPTION: (images/uploads/19_sunset-crasig-peak.jpg)\nUpdate - CancelledDucks are ve
ry much askew - weather system bearing down. Only two peopled showed intere
st. For now it's cancelled, but it will not be forgotten.\nDescriptionThis
trip definately will require all the ducks to be aligned; good snow cover a
nd nice frosty conditions.\nSnow skills required.\nCamping in the snow and
walking in the dark will be features of this trip.\nDay 1Drive down to Fox
Glacier township and stay at NZAC Porter Lodge. Lots of coffee stops on the
way.\nDay 2Drive to the start of the track just south of Fox Glacier, then
start walking up the steep track. We want to have enough time to attain th
e tarns and setup camp. We will then walk back towards Mt Fox for dinner an
d the sunset. Once the sun has set and dinner completed, we will then proce
ed back to the campsite\nThe alternative is to have dinner and walk back to
the viewpoint. This is a trip where things might be a little fluid, so be
prepared to be flexible.\n[I will work out the timings in more detail in du
e course.]\nDay 3Alpine start and make our way along the ridge towards Crai
g Peak. I did this trip in 2010, from memory (not always reliable!) the goi
ng is straight forward. After attaining the summit we will return via the s
ame route. We will take our lunch [last time we didn't - thinking it would
be a short trip! We arrived back at the campsite at 15:30].\nAn early start
will give us some flexibility. Ideally we will get back at the campsite, d
ecamp and head back down. Last time it was a 13.5 hr day, but it is fun wal
king downhill in the bush, in the dark. Yes? Alternatively, we will stay an
other night at the campsite and have an early start the next day.\nDay 4Ret
urn home, either starting at the campsite on the tops, or from Porter Lodge
. Again, lots of coffee stops enroute.\n This event was imported from: http
