Come and experience the wonderful forest and birdlife in NZ's second largest fenced sanctuary right at Nelson's back door. This trip will take us into the heart of the Sanctuary well beyond the standard visitor routes. This includes down from the source of Brook Stream through the upper gorge on a newly constructed track. Your leader was involved here and over many years with many other sections of the 110km network of tracks at BWS. So expect some good insights.

We will start from the Visitor Centre and proceed up the Valley Track by Brook Stream to Ferny Flats. Then we will go up the the spur where many of the recently introduced Kakariki are living.  We then traverse to Toutouwai Gate near Third House on monitoring lines inside the fence. After traversing a little further we head down the Upper Valley Track through some magnificent beech and podocarp forest before heading off on Carters Track to join Koru Track and thence back down to the Visitor Centre.

This trip is all on good tracks but does involve some steep sections and stream crossings. The distance is about 10km with a height gain of about 600m.

BWS entry fees will apply: $11 per adult, $7 student or Gold card. Or purchase the Supporter Pass with 12 mo free entry for $50.

Registration

It is IMPORTANT that "You contact the Trip Leader before registering" for a trip. Especially if you are new to the club or a non-club member (Visitor). The Leader will need to be confident that you have the experience, fitness and the correct gear to complete the trip successfully. :-)
CLUB MEMBERS must LOGIN HERE to register so that your details auto-populate the registration fields. You can edit these auto-populated fields but they aren't saved for later use. To permanently change them, edit them HERE." PLease register couples separately if both are attending.
VISITORS can register using their email address which will be used to send you trip registration confirmation details and the ability to cancel the trip registration. Please register each person attending separately.
