Three tramps in one day. Matakitaki Valley, Murchison

  1. Glenhope Railway station on SH6. Just a short stroll off the road but interesting if you have never stopped here. I have a photograph of elephants in the stockyards that are unique in NZ, connected to a railway station
  2. Hidden in the bush at Mammoth Flat is a Ransomes & Sims steam engine dated back 120 years. It is wonderfully preserved under a roof but is seriously hard to find. 11km very flat but no track to follow! A great adventure in the bush full of birdlife.
  3. 6 Mile hydro. Gentle walk along the leat to the intake on 6 mile creek and visit the power house built in 1921. 3.6km
  4. If we have time before he closes, Terry at the Two Rivers cafe for a cuppa before we drive home.

Dress warmly. Because there is very little climbing and dense bush, it will be cold at this time of year.
