Cascade Saddle - Dart Glacier - Rees Route! Between 10th and 19th January. We meet in Wanaka on 10th Jan (i can offer a ride from CHCH in the morning of the 10th)

10th) park in Wanaka at lunchtime, hitch/shuttle into the Matukituki Vly, walk from Raspberry Carpark, 2-3 hrs to Aspiring Hut. Store some spare food there.

11) on to Liverpool or Frenchridge Hut, explore

12) Probably spend an extra day or 2 here, going up Frenchridge and/or Liverpool Hut

13) spare day in Matukituki Valley, depending on weather window. Stay at Aspiring Hut

14) climb Cascade saddle, into Dart hut, 8-10 hrs. Camping halfway at Pylon is possible (but not intended). Hut 32 bunks, no booking

15) morning rest or sidetrip to Whitbourn Vly, then down to Shelter Rock huit, 5 hrs. 22 bunks, no booking.

16) out to Muddy Creek car park, 6-7 hrs, and hopefully catch a ride to Glenorchy. Camp in lovely Glenorchy. Otherwise camp and walk out the next day, 4.5 hrs.

17) Hitch back to cars in Wanaka.

18) back to CHCH

I offer a shared ride in my car from CHCH to Wanaka return (not Nelson). I ll have VERY LIMITED phone reception after 27th Dec, so best txt and we can arrange a phone call.

Good weather is totally essential for the Cascade saddle traverse day!!! And not too much snow remaining. And not after heavy rain.

This could turn into an official club trip with arranged shuttle transport, (with sufficient interest) otherwise it's just a casual buddy tramp.

Registration

It is IMPORTANT that "You contact the Trip Leader before registering" for a trip. Especially if you are new to the club or a non-club member (Visitor). The Leader will need to be confident that you have the experience, fitness and the correct gear to complete the trip successfully. :-)
