DESCRIPTION:To replace the Mt Starvaell Tramp, I am planning to investigate an "old' tr
 ack/route to Saddle Hill from the top of Maungatapu Saddle. It has not been
  maintained after major windfall damage some 10+ years ago. Originally it w
 as well marked with its own picnic table and track sign! After many years h
 owever, the markers may be hard to find. We will take coloured tape to mark
  our route. It will take about two hours to walk up the old road to the sad
 dle. We would then follow the ridgeline (as well as we can)  through beech 
 forest across peak 1168 to Saddle Hill at 1215 m. There is a return track c
 alled the 'Zig Zag' that we may try to find for a possibly shorter return l
 eg. Plan to leave Nelson at 8 am for 8.30 start at Maitai Dam. Return to th
